The kindergarten class at Wilson Primary raised $150 to buy a llama for a family in South America. Their teacher, Wes Liggett says they started reading Llama books and the kids fell in love with the books and wanted to learn more.
When they researched llama's they found they could provide for an entire family for a year, by donating a llama through Heifer International. They started saving their pennies and saved 15,000 of them.
"It's really special to them and it's really special that they can have a part in something so big, because when you are six, the world seems like a big place," said kindergarten teacher Wes Liggett. "But when we can bridge those gaps and bridge those oceans with projects like this, it really has a good impact for the children."
In some countries, a llama's fur is expensive, they can shave a llama once a year and supply a whole family with food and other basic needs for a year.
