They wanted to be environmentally friendly by saving water, but maintenance crews at the Kroc Center are paying for it lately.
The building was built without a sprinkler system. The landscaping uses native plants which should be able to withstand drought conditions, but not so soon after being planted.
To save the plants, the Kroc Center is using extra manpower to try and water the plants.
"We've started out with large watering tanks and developed a better system over time," says Facilities Director Bruce Fuqua. "We've gone from the tanks to different kinds of hoses we've used to dumping several gallons at a time."
Right now, workers are using about 6000 gallons a day of water to water all the plants.
