The Notre Dame Football team does a fun event each year that has become a great tradition. The third annual Football 101 was a huge success as over 550 women learned the basics of the game from some of the countries best coaches and players, put on by the head coaches wife, Paqui Kelly.
"We've got another wonderful weather day of 75. I think the women are a little anxious about the breeze cause it may affect the passing game we're going to have today or the kicking game. But I think we'll be alright." Kelly said.
Proceeds from the event will help benefit breast cancer research through the Kelly Cares Foundation. Paqui has had her own battles with breast cancer. Twice in the past eight years. And while all the women enjoy themselves catching, running, and tackling, they know seriousness of the cause.
"By telling my story, it's given me a venue to let people know, it's important to be proactive in your health. Cause my story would have had a different scenario ending had I not been. It can make a difference because they've said, 'I'm going to go to the doctor today'." Kelly said.
Between the Football 101 and the foundation's summer golf outing, they expect to raise around $150,000.
