Marshall County has banned burning and Saint Joe County's ban will take effect Friday morning.
The reason for the ban is the drought.
South Bend firefighters set up a demonstration on Wednesday to show just how fast a grass fire can spread when it is this dry.
South Bend Fire Marshal Chico Rodriguez says this is the driest he has ever seen the area.
Rodriguez says he knew the drought was going to happen back in February.
"As you know we had a warm spring and we did not get much snow during wintertime so everything has been building up to this point," said Fire Marshal Chico Rodriguez.
Rodriguez wants to remind people if you choose to burn make sure you have water or a fire extinguisher close by.
