They say one man's trash is another mans treasure. At the 8th Annual Notre Dame Old2Gold sale is banking on that to be true.
Last year's sale brought in $52,000 dollars. The money goes to local community organizations. This year there are nearly 40 groups receiving donations, all with volunteers helping out with the sale.
With the stadium under construction, this year's sale is at the old Target in South Bend near the Town & Country shopping center.
Organizers say it helps to be there, because the event is bigger than ever. "This space really gives us an opportunity to showcase all of the items that we have," says ND Director of Central Services Amy Coughlin. "And we have twice as many things as we did in previous years."
This year they have almost 600 bikes, more than 100 refrigerators, more than 100 couches, 180 tables of clothing, tons of housewares, and even electronics.
Everything kicks off this Saturday from 9:00 AM until noon. There are no early bird hours this year but tickets go on sale at 7 o'clock. A ticket will run you $5 and parking is free. Leave your credit cards at home, though. The sale is cash only.
