Fans did not get to see NASCAR driver Tony Stewart take the track at Plymouth Speedway Saturday night... but he has promised to return. Stewart will race in the sprints on dirt show August 18th.
Just after 10 o'clock Saturday night, Stewart arrived by helicopter, but just minutes after his arrival a thunder-storm forced the Speedway to cancel the race.
Tire problems at Michigan International forced Cup drivers to have an extra practice. As soon as he finished the practice, Stewart flew to Plymouth.
Everyone was disappointed but they are making the best of the situation.
SOD series director Mike Strevel says Tony actually asked the series to leave the August Michigan race weekend open in case Plymouth needed it for a rain out date.
Minutes after the race was canceled, Stewart took his private jet that was waiting here for him and flew back to Brooklyn, Michigan for Sunday's NASCAR race.
