Looking at the lawn can be pretty depressing right now. The lack of rain sure is taking its toll.
We went to the experts to find out if there's anything you can do to save your grass and your gardens.
There's no secret weapon, just water. The time does matter, though. Master Gardener Steve Kruse says the best time to water is in the morning, or at night if you have to.
"Just bear in mind when you do water in the evening, your plants are, the term is, they're going to bed wet, so to speak, and the humidity could bring some fungus. So if you have to, water at night, but try not to make it a habit." says Kruse. Experts say your best bet is to water between seven and eight in the morning.
For some, the drought brings much bigger concerns than just a dry lawn. Indiana farmers say the rain over the weekend did little to help. They're looking for more wet weather. Otherwise we could be in for some big trouble.
"Give it about a week or ten days of continued drought and we'll be hurting pretty bad," explains Jeff Burbrink with Purdue Extension. Not all is lost. Burbrink says if we get a good two inches of rain, that should set things up for a good corn crop.
