Press Release from Home Comfort Experts
We've
already had several 90 degree plus days in Michiana and many homeowners have
been receiving an unexpected surprise in the mail - high electric bills!
The
cooling experts at Home Comfort Experts would like to lend advice of what to do
now with many more weeks of hot weather remaining:
- It
is not too late to have a professional air conditioner tune-up. The cost
of the tune-ups will more than be offset by the electric bill savings and it
will lengthen the life of the unit, as well as prevent breakdowns.
- Use
exhaust fans when showering and cooking. Speaking of cooking, it is best
to cook outdoors or cook indoors in the early morning.
- Run
the dishwasher before you go to bed (typically late evening).
- Consider
using a dehumidifier if you have a rock foundation or a crawlspace.
- Wash
off any debris accumulated on the air conditioner's outside coil (such as grass
clippings, dryer lint, or cottonwood seeds).
- Seal
gaps or holes in basement ductwork and tightly shut registers.
Force cool air to the upper floor(s) away from basements. Gaps or holes
in ductwork should be sealed, registers in basements should be closed, and
dampers to branch ducts serving basement areas should be closed.
- Move
furniture away from supply registers and return air grilles.
- Use
a setback thermostat. Anytime you make the inside temperature closer to
the outside temperature, you save energy.
- If your air conditioner is over 12 years old, you may want to replace
it with a new, energy- efficient, environmentally friendly model. You could
save up to 30% on your utility bills.
