A 29 year old male is in critical condition after being shot early Saturday morning. Metro Homicide Commander Tim Corbett says they believe the victim was originally shot in the 800 block of Adams Street in South Bend. He then drove his car about one mile to the intersection of Adams and Hamilton Streets. At the intersection the victim's car jumped the curb, hit bushes in front of a house in the 1700 block of Hamilton street then hit the front of a home just next door, knocking off its gas meter. The victim then backed up the vehicle then drove forward again hitting the back of a car in the homes driveway and continuing into the backyard of the first home where he had hit the bushes in the front yard. Corbett says the victim was found in that backyard. He says police received the call about the incident shortly after 5 a.m. Saturday morning.
Corbett says they are looking for a suspect right now. They will be interviewing people and plan on processing the victims car to get evidence out of it. At this time Corbett cannot say how many times the victim was shot but he remains in the hospital in "extremely critical condition."
The gas company did shut off the gas at the home where the meter was knocked off. They are expected to repair the meter Saturday afternoon.
