Man goes to hospital after Elkhart County accident

A Mishawaka man is in the hospital after an accident in Elkhart County.

It happened at 2:44 Monday afternoon at the corner of County Road 27 and State Road 19 (Nappanee Street) just south of the Elkhart city limits.

The Sheriff's Department says a garbage truck driven by 45-year-old Frederick Cartwright of Edwardsburg was stopped at the corner when an SUV driven by 60-year-old Dennis Haeck hit the garbage truck from behind.

Police believe Haeck suffered a diabetic reaction that caused him to lose control of his vehicle. He received facial injuries and the SUV was damaged pretty badly. Medical crews took him to the hospital for treatment.

Deputies say they did not give out any tickets for this accident.
