Unanimous support.
That's what the South Bend Common Council is giving to a new riverfront development district.
They're hoping the new district will encourage more restaurants and businesses to open up downtown.
The Council's thumbs up means new businesses can get a liquor license for $1,000 instead of $30,000 to $60,000. They think it's a win win for everyone!
"You got people buying food, you got people buying drinks. Restaurant owners are getting money, people working at the restaurant are getting money, money's being changed hands, so that's a good thing."
The district will cover the area between Memorial Hospital and the Sample Street bridge on the west side of the St. Joseph River. It'll also extend from Corby Boulevard to the Sample Street bridge in the East Bank area and go as far west as Lafayette Boulevard and east to Eddy Street.
