The 4th of July is next Wednesday---so you might not be thinking about fireworks just yet.
But your local fire department is.
They say people will be celebrating this weekend *and* next weekend.
They want to make sure you're up to date on your firework safety.
Remember to leave enough space for the firework to go off without hitting anything or anyone.
The most common firework injuries are to the hands and eyes.
But before you even shoot off your first firework, water down the area where you plan to ignite the fireworks.
Officials suggest doing setting up your fireworks on grass instead of a paved area.
That way, there is less risk of the explosives bouncing or spinning.
And---make sure to have a hose ready---especially this year.
Federico Rodruiguez said,"We've had already like 47 grass fires since the first of May to now..for one reason or another and it doesn't take very much or grass fires to start up."
In addition to safety, you'll also want to brush up on fireworks laws.
In most cities in Michiana, you can only shoot off fireworks at a certain time.
