UPDATE: Unexplained illness spreads at Notre Dame

Posted:

An unexpected illness spread throughout a high school sports camp at University of Notre Dame.

According to a press release sent out by the university's spokesperson, Dennis Brown, about 103 high school campers were treated on Wednesday for a "gastrointestinal illness." Some of the campers had to be sent to a local hospital for treatment and are expected to be released by Thursday.

Brown states that the cause of the illness is currently unknown but could be related to a food or virus. Campers complained of symptoms that were similar to the stomach flu but the symptoms did not last very long.

Notre Dame and the St. Joseph County Health Department is working together to determine how this illness started.
