As Colorado deals with the massive destruction from wildfires that continue to burn, two of Michiana's own are on their way to help.
Two volunteers from our area are headed to Colorado as we speak. Trish Boase and Mary Allen will be deploying to Larimer, Colorado. Trish and Mary are both experience disaster volunteers with many previous deployments under their belts.
Mary will be serving in Staff Planning and Support helping to organize the volunteer effort.
Trish will be serving as a Government Liaison to help coordinate activity and communication among the many state, federal and non-governmental agencies assisting on this disaster operation.
Red Cross Officials say the need in Colorado is overwhelming.
"Typically, you'll use people as close as possible," says American Red Cross Emergency Services Coordinator Doug Farmwald, "but sometimes, and like in this case, the fires have overwhelmed the resources of the local area. There just aren't enough people, there aren't enough trucks, there aren't enough--anything to deal with that issue."
If you want to help out, the Red Cross says donating money is your best bet. You can check their website or text REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation.
