Update: South Bend Police bomb squad at house in Mishawaka

Posted:

The South Bend Police bomb squad is at a house in the 2300 block of Main Street in Mishawaka.

Mishawaka Police say the incident started when officers were conducting a narcotics investigation. Officers say 27-year-old Lowell Cortas was getting ready to sell weed. After arresting him they discovered illegal explosive fireworks. That's when the South Bend Bomb Squad was called in. During the search of the residence officers found more evidence of the homeowner trying to modify fireworks inside the garage.

The investigators pulled nearly 60 boxes full of fireworks from the suspects garage.

Right now there is one other suspect in for questioning. And police say the investigation as to what exactly happened is still early in the process.
