High school students are getting a hands-on look at the life of local police. All week, the South Bend Police Department has been hosting a Youth Police Academy.
On Friday, students took part in classes about SWAT teams, firearms and tasers, and crime scene processing. In the afternoon, some of the South Bend CSI team set up a mock crime scene for the students to examine.
Earlier in the week the also had a chance to hit a driving course while wearing "DUI Goggles". They weren't in cars, though. The kids were behind the wheel of golf carts, to make the experience a little safer.
The program is designed to show late middle school and high school students a positive side 0of law enforcement. The hope is that some may even choose law enforcement as a career in the future.
FOX28 News headed over to F.O.P. Lodge in South Bend, where the classes are going on, to check things out.
