Knox man killed in Elkhart County accident

The Elkhart County Sheriff's Department says a Knox man is dead after an accident Thursday morning near Nappanee.

Police say Kevin Shaffer was driving a 1979 Ford Mustang on County Road 146 near County Road 46 north of Nappanee around 7:00 a.m. when his car left the road, jumping over a ditch, landing on its top in a cornfield. Police say Shaffer was not wearing a seatbelt and was thrown from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say unsafe speed was a contributing factor in the accident. They're still investigating to see if any other factor played a role in the accident.
