A child was taken to the hospital after track officials say two people were hit by flaming debris at South Bend Motor Speedway Wednesday evening.

Video posted on YouTube by user vegasgleason shows sparks going into the stands.

Steve Brown of the track tells FOX28 News it happened Wednesday evening during an event called "Night of Destruction." Brown says a jet car was being used to burn an older car when a door on the car flew open and something went into the crowd.

Brown says two people were hurt, a woman and a child. Brown says the woman's shirt was burned, but she declined treatment. Brown says it appeared the child had a few cuts and burns. The South Bend Fire Department says an ambulance took the child to the hospital. There's no word on the child's condition.

Brown tells FOX28 News the jet engine was shut down as crews responded to the stands.

Brown says they had more than a dozen firefighters, 2 tankers and several other fire vehicles on-site for the event. He says they believed the demonstration was far enough away from the crowd for safety.
