There's no escaping the heat in Buchanan this weekend. The National Motocross event at RedBud kicked off Friday with amateur races. And already, fans are feeling the heat. Paramedics like Andrew Hartman, say they treated nearly 20 people in just one hour for heat-related problems.
"Over kill for the heat, I mean it's something that we we're trying to plan for ahead of time knowing that we we're getting it. And it's definitely something we're normally not use to out here." Hartman said.
He says they've set up their disaster response unit, along with air-conditioned cooling tents for anyone feeling the heat. Inside the tents there are licenced paramedics, cooling chairs, and much cooler air.
"If you're starting to feel a little weaker because of the heat, that's when you need to start drinking more fluids and getting cooled down." Hartman said.
But even with the heat, dangerous heat for those who aren't careful, officials are still expecting more than 30,000 people to flock to Saturdays races.
