Posted:

A 7-month-old boy is dead and three other family members were hurt after the buggy they were in hit a semi north of Shipshewana.

The LaGrange County Sheriff's Department says the accident happened on State Road 120 just west of County Road 675 W around 12:15 p.m. Monday.

Police say Eva Schlabach was driving the buggy on the shoulder when it turned into the path of the semi, hitting the truck near the back of the trailer.  Eva and her three children Darla, Nichole, and 7 1/2-month-old Jaedon were thrown from the buggy.

Jaedon was killed in the crash.  Nichole, 3, and her mother were airlifted to a Fort Wayne hospital for treatment.  Darla, 4, was taken to a Lagrange hospital for treatment.

The driver of the semi was not hurt.

The LaGrange County Sheriff's Department says they're still investigating the accident.

Correction: Police originally reported that Jaedon Schlabach was 17 1/2 months old.
