One person is dead after a fire early Sunday at a Michigan City antique
store.
Dispatchers got a call around 3:00 a.m. Sunday
about a fire at Antiques Art on East
Michigan Street.
Police were the first to arrive. They tried to get
inside the building, but couldn't. The Fire Department says one person inside
died. The person's name has not been released.
Fire officials say crews fought a long, hard
battle with the fire. The upper portions of the building suffered heavy fire
damage. All of the building suffered heavy smoke and water damage.
The Michigan
City Fire Marshal's investigation found the fire started on the exterior of the
building. The Fire Marshal has not yet determined a cause, but says all common
causes have been ruled out.
