South Bend Police went to the home in the 2200 block of Kendall Street Wednesday afternoon on a tip a man wanted on a warrant out of Mishawaka was there.
FOX28's Casey Jones was at the scene as police started shooting what appeared to be tear gas into the home around 4:20 p.m. South Bend Police say it came after negotiations broke down. A few minutes later, police say a man came out of the home from a rear door and was taken into custody without incident. A South Bend Police spokesperson could not tell us what the warrant was for.
Before the tear gas, neighbors tell FOX28 a woman also came out of the home. Police tell us she was taken for questioning.
Police believed the suspect was possibly armed, leading them to surround the home and block off the street. Neighbors tell FOX28 that they were told by police they could either evacuate their house or hide in their basements.
