More than $300,000 worth of heroin was confiscated after a traffic stop turned into a drug bust in Elkhart County. Indiana State Police say they pulled over a 1999 Honda Accord on the Toll Road near State Road 19 on Wednesday.
According to the trooper, the driver told him they had driven from Philadelphia to Merillville to go shopping at the mall. The trooper found the story suspicious and called in a K-9 unit to assist. A search found a hidden compartment in the armrest of the car containing six kilos of heroin.
The driver, 56-year-old Lafaithia Dawkins, and her daughter, 22-year-old Kia Williams, were both arrested facing multiple drug charges, including trafficking and dealing. Both women are currently being held in the Elkhart County Jail.
