The NCAA says it is looking for answers from Penn State.
The NCAA released a short statement Thursday after a bruising report the school commissioned on the Jerry Sandusky scandal was released. The report says school leaders, including Joe Paterno, covered up facts tied to Sandusky's child abuse and the university seemed to have fractured procedures when it comes to compliance with NCAA rules and other policies.
The school could face NCAA sanctions if rules violations are considered major. Whether that could include the so-called "death penalty" - where a program is shut down - seems unlikely, at least for now. That has happened just once, against SMU back in the 1980s. Current NCAA rules limit the penalty to colleges which already are on probation and commit another major violation.
