Opening Ceremonies for the 2012 Olympic games are less than three weeks away, but Morgan Uceny was in action for a pre-Olympics race in London.
For the Diamond League series... The Plymouth native made her move to the front on the final lap, challenging for the lead. But on the last straight away, Maryam Jamal pulls away to win the race as Uceny falls back. She ended up with a 5th place finish with a time of 4:08.22.
While Uceny is getting ready for the big meet, Saturday her hometown came together to support her and their family.
Nearly 200 people took part in the Run-Morgan-Run 5K at Plymouth High School, with the proceeds helping to offset her parents travel expenses. They raised more than $3100.
Supporters signed a good luck banner that her family will give to her in London.
They're also selling T-shirts and necklaces, like the one Morgan herself wears. To get your own Uceny Olympics gear you can contact the Plymouth Sports complex, they're $10 each.
Her necklace has definitely become her thing.
Uceny says that she started wearing the necklace when she was in junior high and it's become her trademark. Her former coach says Uceny has always been unique from her necklace to her clothes, that's one of the things they always loved about her.
