$18,000. That's a lot of money to come up with for athletics. In Cassopolis there was a huge deficit and the high school athletes themselves were going to have to pay for it. That is until some generous donors started coming through.
FOX 28's Allison Hayes breaks the story of not just one "Lone Ranger" But a band of Rangers working to save Cass Sports.
Although Robert Saxton's own kids have long graduated from Cassopolis High School, when he heard that some athletes wouldn't be able to play sports this year because of a $100 fee, he knew he had to help.
Saxton presented the school board with a check for $9000, cutting the pay for play fee in half.
Saxton's generosity has lit a fire in the community. The VFW donated $355 and the Cassopolis Family Clinic presented a check for more than $3000.
And the athletes are taking action themselves. Later this summer, students will volunteer at the Cass County fair. In return, the fair will donate another $2700.
The goal is to reduce the cost so all kids have the opportunity to play but also to spark the community to come together.
