The chairman of the National Endowment of the Arts was in South Bend Tuesday. He visited sites that are trying to bring more arts and culture to the community.
One stop on the tour was the construction site for the Notre Dame Center for Arts and Culture. The center will provide space for community programming, arts and education.
It will also feature a fine-art print studio all on West Washington, in an area that's close to existing museums and other cultural venues. "We're hopeful that at one point this will become recognized as an arts corridor," said Gilberto Cardenas with Notre Dame.
Center officials plans to have a strong focus on Latino and African American Art.
