South Bend Police held a press conference today to discuss the death of Michael Anderson.
Anderson was being pursued because he was considered a suspect in a theft.
Police say Anderson was driving a stolen moped.... when he hopped off and ran.
Police tried to hit him with a taser but missed.
Police say they found him choking on a bag of marijuana in his mouth.
Officers and medics tried to save him but he later died at the hospital.
"Were told by officers on the scene there were approximately 15 people on this porch," said Interim Police Chief Charles Hurley. "Four people ended up coming down to the police station to give statements. Those statements corroborate what the officers observed."
Police say all the statements were consistent.
They say the case is closed but say Anderson's family wants a private investigator.
