Fire damages historical Elkhart building

Part of the old Walter Piano building was destroyed in a fire early Sunday in Elkhart.

When crews arrived to the 700 block of West Beardsley, the middle section of the building was fully in flames.

Crews say it was too dangerous to go inside the building to fight the fire.

It took several hours to get it under control.

Investigators aren't sure how the fire started.
