National Night Out
On Tuesday, August 7, 2012, neighborhoods throughout St. Joseph County are being invited to join in with thousands of communities in the country for the 29th Annual National Night Out Against Crime (NNO).
The focus of the event is crime awareness and drug prevention and is expected to involve over 15,000 communities from all 50 states, US territories, military bases and Canadian cities.National Night Out is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness, generate support for and participation in, local anti-crime efforts in addition to strengthening neighborhood spirit and police community partnerships.
It is also a way to send a message to criminals to let them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.From 7 to 10 pm on August 7, citizens are asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights and spend the evening outside with their neighbors and police. With this in mind, many communities are hosting events.
The St. Joseph County Police Department will be hosting our 2nd Annual National Night Out Against Crime. We have partnered with many local businesses and organizations that will be providing crime prevention and safety information for the citizens of St. Joseph County.
Some of the services that will be provided will be a car seat clinic, neighborhood watch information, anti-drug information, fingerprint cards, fire safety house, water safety, home security and personal safety. The event, which is totally free to attend, will have free kids rides, free food, games and many free giveaways.
