Goshen Police say one of their
officers was involved in a police chase early Tuesday morning.
Around 1:55 a.m., Goshen Police say an
officer saw two men on a motorcycle passing vehicles at a high rate of speed
near the intersection of Indiana
Avenue and Pike Street. The officer turned on his
lights and tried to stop the motorcycle, but says the driver increased speed to
try and escape.
Police say the driver lost control
in 2600-block of Lincolnway East, going off the road and crashing on the
property of Rap Automotive.
Police identified the driver as
Carlos Delgado of Goshen.
He was taken to a Goshen
hospital for treatment, then to the Elkhart County Jail. Police say he's facing
charges including Driving While Suspended, Speeding, Operating While
Intoxicated Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury and Resisting Law Enforcement Resulting
in Serious Bodily Injury.
A passenger on the motorcycle,
18-year-old Erick Ponce, was also taken to a Goshen
hospital, then flown to a South Bend
hospital. Police say he appeared to have a broken right leg.
Since alcohol is believed to be
involved, the Elkhart County FACT team was called to the scene.
