Goshen Police say one of their officers was involved in a police chase early Tuesday morning.

Around 1:55 a.m., Goshen Police say an officer saw two men on a motorcycle passing vehicles at a high rate of speed near the intersection of Indiana Avenue and Pike Street. The officer turned on his lights and tried to stop the motorcycle, but says the driver increased speed to try and escape.

Police say the driver lost control in 2600-block of Lincolnway East, going off the road and crashing on the property of Rap Automotive.

Police identified the driver as Carlos Delgado of Goshen. He was taken to a Goshen hospital for treatment, then to the Elkhart County Jail. Police say he's facing charges including Driving While Suspended, Speeding, Operating While Intoxicated Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury and Resisting Law Enforcement Resulting in Serious Bodily Injury.

A passenger on the motorcycle, 18-year-old Erick Ponce, was also taken to a Goshen hospital, then flown to a South Bend hospital. Police say he appeared to have a broken right leg.

Since alcohol is believed to be involved, the Elkhart County FACT team was called to the scene.
