Police investigating fatal train accident in Berrien County

Police in Berrien County are investigating the death of a woman who was run over by a train. The accident happened in Lincoln Charter Township near Defay Road.

Engineer Kim Doyle told officers he rounded a corner south of Stevensville and saw someone lying on the tracks. Doyle says he tried an emergency stop and sounded his horn, but couldn't avoid hitting the person.

The victim was later identified as 25-year-old Jessica Smith of Stevensville. The train wasn't damaged, and didn't leave the track.
