Homes and gas station evacuated over South Bend fire

A scary morning for some folks in South Bend when they were forced to evacuate their homes while crews battled a fire nearby. Four 100lb. propane tanks at a lot on the 1700 block of South Bend Ave. caught fire around 11:30am on Wednesday.

The nearby gas station and some homes were evacuated as a precaution, but crews were able to get the fire under control with no injuries reported.

The tanks were in the parking lot as part of a surface repair project underway.
