SPOILER WARNING: This story contains results from the 1,500 meter semifinals.
Plymouth has a lot to be proud of. One of their own is in the running for Olympic Gold.
"For a small town girl to make it to the Olympic Finals in an event that the United States has never won, it's gotta be surprising to everybody," says superintendent, Dan Tyreedanr.
Morgan Uceny left her mark at Plymouth High School and today she ran the 1500 semifinals, with plenty of fans watching.
"Morgan ran a great race. She was in control the whole time, but it was still scary," says Tyreedanr.
The race had her fans on the edge of their seats.
"I was just 'Go! Go! Go!' and I knew she would have to kick it in in the end and she did," says Plymouth teacher, Kathryn Hiatt.
"My heart is just boom, boom, boom. I just can't believe that right now she's over there celebrating. It's wonderful," says Plymouth guidance counselor, Tina Morales.
Uceny is a hometown hero and an inspiration to Plymouth athletes.
"It's pretty cool to know how much tradition comes from our school and how much our school's accomplished," says junior football player, Michael Garrity.
"It gives us hope that maybe we can make it just as far as her someday," says sophomore tennis player, Katie Hickman.
Her third place finish advances her to the 1500 meter final Friday in London.
"It shows that Olympians come from anywhere and great athletes come from any school," says Garrity.
You can bet her fans will be cheering back home!
The gold-medal race for the London women's 1500 meter run is on Friday, August 10. The race starts at 8:55 p.m. and Plymouth High School hopes to fill the auditorium with fans to watch Uceny.
