A new partnership between the South Bend Heritage Foundation and Fifth Third Bank will help potential homebuyers. The foundation was awarded a $25,000 grant from the bank to help people with a down payment.
First time homebuyers are eligible to buy homes in the West Washington Historic district and the new Triangle development.
"The exciting part of this new grant program is the grant levels for down payment assistance are higher than most you'll typically see in the region or the area," said Marco Mariani with the South Bend Heritage Foundation.
Homeowners can receive anywhere between three and five thousand dollars for assistance. The house where the presentation took place is available through the foundation.
You can see a list of homes eligible for the assistance program on the Heritage Foundation's website.
