The Symetra tour is the LPGA's future. The up and coming young golfers who have dreams of making it to the big time.
This weekend, Blackthorn is the big stage, with the highest purse of the season. The winner will take home $22,000.
It was cold and rainy all day at Blackthorn... felt more like the British Open, but the course held up beautifully.
Despite the weather, our local players battled.
Granger's Jenny Hong was in the hunt, although she boagied the last three holes, Hong shot 4-over-76. She is tied for 62nd. Former Mishawaka Mayor-Jeff Rae was Hong's caddy.
And Penn's Kari Bellville is right there with her. The 16 year old has such a smooth swing.
Bellville shot 4-over-76 to finish tied for 62nd as well. Hong and Bellville are 6 shots off the lead.
There is a 4-way tie for 1st at 2-under.
Bellville says she is really proud of herself for the way she played, especially with the conditions. She feels the conditions helped her keep up with the rest of the field and she thinks she can play well enough to make the cut.
Hong says the conditions were really difficult, but overall she feels that she played well and hopes to build off that for Saturday's second round.
