Baseball fans got a little something extra at the Silverhawks game today.
Former Chicago Cubs Player and Hall of Famer Andre Dawson took some time to meet fans and sign autographs at the Cove. He also threw the first pitch.
Nicknamed "the Hawk," Dawson is an eight-time National League All-Star player and Rawlings Gold Glove Award winner. He won the 1987 National League Most Valuable player Award in his first season with the Chicago Cubs, setting career highs with 49 home runs and 137 RBIs. Dawson was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2010.
Fans were thrilled to have the opportunity to meet the Hall of Famer!
"I followed him years ago, but not necessarily the Cubs. He's a Hall of Famer, a great guy, and very nice," says fan Deb Johnson after meeting Dawson.
"I have a budding young Cubs fan here and we wanted to meet the Hawk, Hall of Famer. Right? And we're really glad he came to South Bend," says fan Alex Blatt.
"It's not everyday you get to meet someone that plays baseball and somebody that's famous," says Erica Grotz.
Silver Hawks didn't pull this one out though. They fell to the Lake County Captains, 10 to 6.
