A Berrien County father is behind bars in the death of his almost 11-month-old infant.
On August 13, 2012, police were called to Cobblestone Apartments in Watervliet Township, for an infant not breathing.
Police says the infant was rushed to Lakeland Hospital before being flown to Bronson Hospital, in Kalamazoo. The infant died there a short time later.
Police say the father was arrested due to the suspicious and unusual circumstance surrounding the call.
A physical examination of the infant's body revealed several areas of bruising.
The father, Casey Ladd was taken into custody. Ladd is facing charges of first degree murder and child abuse.
An autopsy is scheduled for tomorrow and results could take several weeks.
Police continue to investigate.
