This was the scene in Benton Harbor today...
as they broke ground on the construction of 17 new homes in the Harbor Town Subdivision.
It's located in the heart of the city ... on Market Street.
The new energy efficient homes are being built as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
"People have to live. People have to have a place to go. People have to have a nice, safe environment to be in, we want to make this community as attractive as possible," said Cornerstone Alliance's Greg Vaughn.
The new homes will be available to folks who meet certain income levels.

It's always a good sign when they break out the gold shovels. That was certainly the case Wednesday, as leaders in Benton Harbor broke ground on the construction of 17 new homes in the Harbor Town Subdivision.
The neighborhood is located in the heart of the city on Market Street. The new energy efficient homes are being built as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
"People have to live. People have to have a place to go. People have to have a nice, safe environment to be in," says Cornerstone Alliance's Greg Vaughn. "We want to make this community as attractive as possible."
The new homes will be available to folks who meet certain income levels. For example a family of four making a maximum household income of no more than $66,360.
