South Bend Common Council members toured the police department's Communication Department Monday night.
In the midst of the now infamous "tape fiasco," the councils Information and Tech Committee was looking at the department's recording equipment and even the cabinet the tapes are stored in.
They say they are in the midst of coming up with a budget and now is the time to put in for an upgrade.
Tim Scott, South Bend Common Councilman says, "What we see from a council point is older antiquated equipment. The hard drives are... one... There are two hard drives and a DVD. The last thing we want to see is any kind of failure that would lead to the appearance of non-transparency."

The council members say the upgrade is so important, they want to see what can be done now, before 2013, to see if they can find funding sooner.
