Red Cross volunteers in several Michiana counties are getting
ready for a possible deployment to Florida
for Isaac.
The National Hurricane Center says Isaac is currently a Tropical Storm. The latest models show it hitting the Dominican Republic and Haiti as a Hurricane on Friday. The models then show it weakening to a Tropical Storm before again strengthening to Hurricane force as it approaches western Florida by early next week.
The Kosciusko County Red Cross says it is ready to deploy several trained volunteers ahead of the storm to set up shelters. FOX28 has learned Red Cross chapters in Saint Joseph, Elkhart and LaGrange Counties are also preparing for possible deployments.
The Red Cross says it has more than 50 trailers with supplies are
pre-positioned along the Gulf and East coasts in preparation for hurricane
season. The trailers are stocked with cots, blankets and comfort kits. The Red
Cross also has kitchen trailers pre-positioned to help.
