Brett Banasiewicz’s condition continuing to improve

Posted:

The condition of a BMX star from South Bend continues to improve after an accident last week.

Brett Banasiewicz suffered a major head injury during a stunt at a Virginia Beach BMX event. The 17-year-old South Bend Washington student was trying to pull off a 720 when his tire got stuck and he wiped out, falling on his head.

In an update email to friends on Monday, Brett's mother, Lisa Banasiewicz, said doctors are lowering his sedation level and expect to have him completely off sedation by Tuesday. Lisa Banasiewicz says the trauma team says Brett's scans and movements are good and strong. She says it still looks like Brett will be in Virginia for 2-3 weeks.

In her email, she also took time to thank everyone for their prayers, love and support. "The road is going to be long and bumpy, with every journey its ups and downs, but I know with My Faith, My Family and My Community that Brett will recover 100%," said Banasiewicz.
