The Cass County Drug Enforcement Team and the Dowagiac Director of Public
Safety say they've made several arrests following increased police presence in
the city over the past few weeks.
Police say the increased presence came as a result of increase thefts in
the Dowagiac area.
One of the arrests was for a July 29th home invasion at a home
on East Railroad Street.
Police say they arrested 21-year-old Justin Young on August 6 for several charges,
including 1st Degree Home Invasion. He is currently being held at
the Cass County Jail on a $40,200 bond.
On August 20, police say they got a tip during
a theft investigation that led to an arrest for methamphetamine production. Police
say they found an active meth lab in a home in the 100-block of Bishop Street. They
arrested 32-year-old Randy Means. Means faces multiple charges, including Maintaining
a Meth Lab within 500 feet of a Residence. He's also being held at the Cass County
Jail on $40,000 bond.
On August 22, detectives say they arrested
49-year-old Richard Ashby for possession of morphine and an outstanding warrant
from Berrien County. He's being held on a $10,000 bond.
Police
also say detectives have developed information leading them to request the Cass
County Prosecutor's Office file charges in a September
2011 home invasion in Dowagiac.
