Prosecutors laid out their case Thursday in the death of a South Bend man following a police pursuit.
A pathologist found Michael Anderson died in July after choking on a baggie of marijuana.
Prosecutor Kevin Cotter said four different people removed four different things from Anderson's airway, like money and marijuana after they apprehended him.
The coroner reported a bag of cocaine was found outside his lungs.
Ken Cotter from the St. Joseph County Prosecutor's Office says, "Based on the time from between when they first came upon Mr. Anderson, to the time when they called for medics and based on those witnesses, we are closing out the investigation and finding that Mr. Anderson died accidentally and at his own hands."
Anderson's father and a private investigator the family has hired say they haven't been able to get information and reports, reports Cotter says weren't available until everything was complete yesterday. And the family says, it just doesn't add up.
Shana Penn, a Private Investigator hired by the family says, "I can tell you what he presented in there is bits and pieces of information. He presented you with five names of officers that responded. Those are not the five officers that actually filled out reports that night and I'm gonna find out why."
Del Monte Anderson, Anderson's Father says, "From what the witnesses are saying and what they're saying, totally different, totally different. I know the coroner personally. When he did the autopsy, he called me, gave me a verbal 'other other' corner's report. There was nothing about a black bag. He said it was a little piece of plastic pushed down by his lung."
Penn says the family has asked for dash cam recordings from that night and haven't received them.
And the family also alleges Anderson had puncture marks under his arm and on his side.
