UPDATE: Transformer causes major power outage

A lot of people probably had a bit of trouble making dinner Sunday evening.

More than 5,000 customers in Elkhart were without power for much of the day.

Power went out at about 4pm.

Indiana Michigan power says a problem with a transformer at the Cleveland station cause the outage.

AEP expects power to be restored by 10pm.

Outage totals as of 9:30pm:

Elkhart County: 2,785

St. Joseph County: 1,629

Cass County, Michigan: 382
