The suspect in the beating death of an 84-year-old Mishawaka woman is now in custody in St. Joseph County after being extradited from Africa.  William Karimu, 19, was arraigned Wednesday on charges of Murder, Burglary, and Felony Murder.

Karimu was charged back in March with the murder of Lois Hickey.  Hickey was found beaten to death in her home on East Donaldson Avenue.  Detectives found blood at the scene, but did not find a match in the National DNA Database.  Hickey's car was missing, but was found by police shortly in Riverpark in late December.

Karimu was taken into custody in Sierra Leone back in August, but authorities needed to negotiate extradition back into the U.S.  The United States does not have an extradition treaty with Sierra Leone.

Karimu will be back in court for an initial hearing on September 18.
