Tennessee man accused of stealing $15K from elderly Mentone woman

Kosciusko County police have a Tennessee man in custody accused of taking more than $15,000 from an elderly Mentone woman.

The Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department believes 37-year-old Brian Schendel convinced a woman to send him regular payments of cash and money orders by misrepresenting himself as an injured veteran in need of assistance.

Detectives tracked Schendel to Oak Ridge, Tennessee where he was taken into custody. Schendel was brought back to Kosciusko County on Wednesday. He is currently being held in the Kosciusko County Jail on $5,000 bond.
