Traffic patterns on State Road 19 will change this weekend. Starting Saturday morning traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction in the construction zone. Crews are going to be switching traffic to the newly constructed pavement on the west side of 19, so they can start work on the east side.
During this new phase of construction, left turns from SR 19 onto Lexington Avenue will NOT be permitted for either northbound or southbound traffic. Furthermore, the intersection of Lexington Avenue east of SR 19 will be closed on Saturday, September 8, for its reconstruction as part of the contract work. This closure is anticipated to last until the end of October. Additionally, there will be no left turn lanes on SR 19 between the St. Joseph River and Beardsley Avenue during this construction phase. Drivers should be aware that attempts at left turns from southbound and northbound SR 19 could cause significant backups and delays. They are encouraged to find alternate routes around the construction zone.
For residences and businesses on side streets to the east of SR 19, these streets can be accessed via Beardsley Avenue to West Boulevard from the north. For residences and businesses on side streets to the west of SR 19, southbound SR 19 motorists will be able to access these streets, including Lexington Avenue. Northbound SR 19 motorists may access residences and businesses on side streets to the west of SR 19 via Bypass Road or California Road to CR 3.
Though some of the project is going to conclude as early as late October, restrictions on the east side of SR-19 won't be completed until the end of November, and the entire project will run through the summer of 2014.
