A 15-year-old driver died Monday morning during a police chase. Authorities were on the lookout for a stolen vehicle when a Niles Police Office saw the truck near Miller and Margaret St.
The truck sped off and the officer pursued. The chase continued to Yankee St. where Michigan State Police were about to deploy stop sticks. The driver of the stolen truck veered off the road, passing through the westbound lane and struck a tree and rolled onto its side.
The driver, identified as Jazmyne Rodriquez of Niles, died in the crash. Michigan State Police are continuing to investigate the crash.
Correction: The original police reported stated that the driver was 16 years old. She was actually 15.
