Michigan Works! is recruiting transportation maintenance workers on behalf of the Michigan Department of Transportation. The temporary jobs pay $15.00 to $19.00 per hour and are available in Allegan, Barry, Berrien, Branch, Calhoun, Cass, Kalamazoo, St. Joseph, and Van Buren counties. The employment period will span from November 13, 2012 to March 16, 2013.
Transportation maintenance workers are responsible for snow removal on highways and bridges. Additional responsibilities will include: pot hole patching, guardrail repair, cable median barrier repair, sign repair and other similar duties as assigned.
Applicants must provide a print out of their driving record from the Secretary of State's office and a valid Class A CDL with an X or N endorsement. They must also attend one of the following information sessions: September 11th at 9:00 a.m. or September 26th at 6 p.m. at the Benton Harbor Michigan Works! office (499 W. Main St); September 18th at 9:00 a.m. or September 20th at 6 p.m. at the Kalamazoo MDOT office (1501 E. Kilgore). Applicants attending the information sessions should be prepared to complete an application and participate in an on-site interview.
Eligible candidates must be high school graduates, have a driving record with less than five points, pass a drug screening, have three-to-five years of experience operating farm or construction equipment, and possess an air brake endorsement.
